アバウトな用語説明　-XOOPS-

XOOPS ： ズープス　eXtensible Object Oriented Portal System

XOOPSは
　　1) 拡張、カスタマイズ可能な (extensible)
　　2) オブジェクト指向の (object oriented)
　　3) ポータルシステム (portal system = CMS)
だそうです。
個人でも比較的簡単にコミュニティサイトやポータルサイトを構築することができ、実際にかなりの規模のコミュニティサイトでも利用されています。

上記1)にもありますが、XOOPSには拡張性があり、必要な機能を簡単に追加できます。それらの機能は、さまざまな方が新規に開発したり、改造したりしたモジュールという形で提供されており、自分の気に入ったモジュールを組み合わせて、サイトの機能を決定できるのです。
　　例)RSSリーダー、フォトギャラリー、お知らせ、フォーラム、リンク集、ニュース、オンラインショップ...

また、CMSの一つですから、ブログのようにブラウザでサイトの管理が簡単にできるのが魅力です。新機能の導入、コンテンツの追加・変更、会員(利用者)の管理、などブラウザで全部できます。
