成果のバックグランド

ある事柄を調べるのに、昔はどうしていましたっけ？　たとえば、私の学生時代(もう何十年も昔になってしまいました)では、調べ物は図書館で書籍・文献を漁ってました。

今は？　もちろん、インターネットです。いろんな検索エンジンが無償でサービスを提供してくれてますね。Yahoo!でもGoogleでもMSN Searchでもgooでもよりどりみどりです。良い時代になったものです。机に座りながら、インターネットからさまざまな情報を入手できるんですから。

インターネット上の膨大な情報を効率よく入手するには、検索エンジンは欠かせないサービスです。しかし、情報が簡単にしかも、必要な部分だけ取り出せるということはあまりよくない側面もあるかもしれません。

あるトラブルに遭遇したとき、私はインターネット上の情報を探します。そのものずばりの解決法があったとして、それを実行して、トラブルは解決。これはこれで結果オーライ。しかし、そのとき、私は何をしたでしょうか？　先人の知識に従っただけです。自分よりはるか先を歩いている方の知識を得たわけです、一足飛びに。

この状況は、1年生が2年生の問題が解けなくて3年生に答えだけ教わったという状況ではないでしょうか。当然、1年生はその後も勉強を続けていくので問題はないでしょう。しかし、私たちはそんな時間はなかったりします。その答えにたどり着く過程を知らずに、答えだけを利用し続けるかもしれません。そして、さらに問題が出てきたとき、答えにたどり着けるでしょうか？

また、検索して先人の知識を得れば良い？　そうかもしれません。でも、それはとても危ういですよね。ちょっと状況が変わっただけで対処できなくなるかもしれません。

今は、ブラックボックスのようなパソコンとソフトウェアで成果物を得られるようになっていますし、それを否定するつもりもありません。が、可能であれば、その成果が得られるまでの過程や知識というバックグランドをきっちりと学んでいくことも大事ではないでしょうか。そうすることで、問題解決へのさまざまアプローチが取れるようになり、本当の実力、知識になっていくでしょうから。

偉そうなことを書いてしまいましたが、必要なものはきちんと基礎から学んでいかないと駄目だと、最近になって思っているtakasunaでした。
